EGYPTOMANIA LECTURE A SUCCESS
On Saturday, November 6, 2010, Jeffery Lyle Segal gave a fascinating slide and audio lecture on Egyptomania, ranging from the early 1900's though the 1980s. Concentrating heavily on the songs and sheet music of the rage, the packed house seemed to thoroughly enjoy the presentation. With a charming theatrical flair, Mr. Segal enchanted the audience with items from his own collection as well.

CADS' CHIC CHICAGO PRESENTATION
Cads sponsored a presentation entitled Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures. It was held November 6 at the Chicago History Museum. This was a rare opportunity to see more than 60 of the greatest couture treasures from the Museum's collection. The ongoing exhibition features Gilded Age gowns by Worth and Pingat to modern masterpieces by Chanel and Versace. At least 7 of the gowns are from the deco period. Below were some of the other glorious outfits seen that star studded night.

In MEMORIAM-JIM ROMANO
On December 4, 2007, CADS and the world lost a great friend when Jim Romano passed away. As former vice-president of The Chicago Art Deco Society, Jim was a founding father of this organization under the presidency of Lynn Abbie. Always giving of his time and talent to CADS, Jim, a successful commercial artist and antiques dealer, designed and created many of the posters and premiums we used. Jim and his lovely wife Ruth lived in the historic Tree Studios on State and Ontario throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's until the property was sold. They were only the second tenants to live in the famous J. Allen St. John studio, where the aforementioned artist illustrated all the early Tarzan books. Tree Studio Gallery at 613 N. State was Jim's longtime flagship antique and collectible shop. Jim and Ruth had recently moved to Albuquerque, NM. On a more personal note, speaking as this site's web designer, I feel compelled to say this much more on this occasion. Without Jim's intervention, I would not be working on this wonderful organization's website. I met Jim in 1973 when he gave me my first job at his photo retouching art studio. To be more succinct, he was the most important person in my career and my life for the past 34 years. It is incomprehensible to think who or where I'd be without him. A more devoted, caring and loving friend no one could have ever had. With deepest sympathy to his family and with much regret, we say goodbye to Jim.

CADS' THE CHICAGOAN LECTURE
the chicagoan cover
On November 22, 2008, Cads sponsored a lecture by author Neil Harris about his new book, THE CHICAGOAN, A LOST MAGAZINE OF THE JAZZ AGE. It proved to be a tantalizing, fascinating slide show / lecture by an articulate speaker who knew his topic thoroughly. It was justifiably well attended.
