NEW
WEB SITE FEATURE
We have added a new page to our website called Collectors Corner. Whenever
we can we will be featuring the art deco collection of any member who
wishes to share it with our audience in a photo online exhibit. You
may participate as an anonymous collector or take full credit. Either
way, our viewing audience will be that much richer for having seen it.
Currently we are showcasing the art deco frame collection of Steve Starr.

MEMORIAM - JIM ROMANO
On
December 4, CADS and the world lost a great friend when Jim Romano passed
away. As former vice-president of The Chicago Art Deco Society, Jim
was a founding father of this organization under the presidency of Lynn
Abbie. Always giving of his time and talent to CADS, Jim, a successful
commercial artist and antiques dealer, designed and created many of
the posters and premiums we used. Jim and his lovely wife Ruth lived
in the historic Tree Studios on State and Ontario throughout the 70's,
80's and 90's until the property was sold. They were only the second
tenants to live in the famous J. Allen St. John studio, where the aforementioned
artist illustrated all the early Tarzan books. Tree Studio Gallery at
613 N. State was Jim's longtime flagship antique and collectible shop.
Jim and Ruth had recently moved to Albuquerque, NM. On a more personal
note, speaking as this site's web designer, I feel compelled to say
this much more on this occasion. Without Jim's intervention, I would
not be working on this wonderful organization's website. I met Jim in
1973 when he gave me my first job at his photo retouching art studio.
To be more succinct, he was the most important person in my career and
my life for the past 34 years. It is incomprehensible to think who or
where I'd be without him. A more devoted, caring and loving friend no
one could have ever had. With deepest sympathy to his family and with
much regret, we say goodbye to Jim.

MEMORIAM - JIM TOLER
Jim Toler of Springdale passed on recently. He was noted by CADS
members as an expert on Heywood-Wakefield furniture. His shop in Michigan
remains unique with an annual party enjoyed by many of his numerous
fans. Jim was born in Wilmington, NC on February 11, 1953. The Springdale
shop was opened December 1st, 2000 in Three Oaks, Michigan. Jim was
a regular at the Winnetka Modernism Show and was happy to answer questions
and engage in other subjects including his love of music. His team at
Springdale remains ready to continue Jim Toler’s mission at www.springdalefurnishings.com.
Our condolences to the Springdale team, Richard, Jeffrey, Jayson and
to all who knew Jim. He will be greatly missed.
